EP Review: MØ – Bikini Daze EP

Seeing  live at The Mohawk for SXSW earlier this year was by far one of the best musical experiences I’ve ever had. Swinging around her long blonde ponytail, while unleashing her hypnotic siren howl left me under her spell. I have been eagerly awaiting an EP or album to follow up on the singles that she had released over the summer.

I must admit that I was quite disappointed to find that Maiden,” Waste of Time,” “Pilgrim,” and “Glass” weren’t included on the Bikini Daze EP. If the EP only consisted those four tracks, it would EPIC and AMAZING! I am hoping that they will be included on a soon-to-be-released full length offering. So what of Bikini Daze EP?

Key Tracks: “XXX 88” and “Dark Night”

The tracks on this album are crisp with random beach style guitar licks, royal brass sections, sub bass synths, and of course MØ’s signature vocal roar. These tracks showcase her vocal diversity and catch her being more downtempo and soulful than what I had expected. It is great! “XXX 88” featuring Diplo is definitely the shining star of the album. Its sound is closest to the previously mentioned songs missing from the EP and, if I may be so bold, represents ‘s most distinctive and appealing style.

That being said, Bikini Daze EP is great! It illuminates a spectrum of  I had yet to see. Although, I hope to hear more from the intense siren I saw at SXSW rocking hard, trap style beats that had the entire crowd dancing.
