Featured FirstCom Music Composer: Chris Penny

This week , we are shining the spotlight on another multi-talented composer in our roster, Chris Penny! We’re sure you’ve heard of him. Chris is best known for his electronic and house releases and remixes under the moniker Cpen, and as an artist, he has had over 40 releases and remixes worldwide and two Billboard #1 dance records: Colette’s club anthem “Feelin’ Hypnotized” (featured on the film The Devil Wears Prada soundtrack) and Julia Fordham’s “Wanna Wake Up With You” [Remix] from the album Concrete Love.

And of course, that’s not all! Chris has also been involved in a growing number of TV, film and mainstream pop projects. A wide variety of national commercials, TV shows and networks have licensed his music, such as ABCFOXHBOShowtimeE! EntertainmentMTVCSI: NY and Motorola. Chris also produced custom music for TV shows, including How I Met Your MotherDuck DynastyCSI: MiamiMy Name Is EarlBoston Legal, and Everybody Loves Raymond.

The LA-based producer/composer/songwriter is renowned for his original and unique approach to writing in many different genres. As a self-taught musician, Chris began as a house and drum & bass artist in London as a teenager. Shortly after, he moved back to his hometown of LA, where he became one of the key founders of the west coast deep house movement, releasing records on such famed labels as OM RecordsSeasons Recordings and Naked Music.

Recently, Chris’ music was featured in two of our February/March releasesThe Minimal Beat (COHH-12) and Street Sounds & Baller Beats 2 (VL-143). And you can expect more from him in one of our Velocity music library’s upcoming releases in April. Be sure to be on the lookout for that!
